Modern English Publishing

There are three Internet books currently available from the mainstream UK ELT publishers: The Internet (2000: OUP: Eastment et al), How to use the Internet (2000: Longman: Teeler / Gray) and The Internet and the language classroom (2000: CUP: Dudeney). Not since 2000 have any major books on the Internet been published, apart from (of course) our own The Internet in Business English (2003: Summertown) which has much relevance for general English and language teaching in general. However, technology is a fast-moving area. This new book covers the web, e-mail, webquests, CD-ROM, Chat, Learning Management systems, authoring software and recent trends such as blogs (on-line diaries). The approach is informational, which will suit those new to each type of technology.
This is also a highly practical book. Note that the web site addresses at the back of the book are kept up-to-date on the publisher's web site. The areas covered are useful and logical, and the book packs in as much as possible in its 180-odd pages. I would welcome more on electronic dictionaries. Clear, often light-hearted, the practical nature of the handbook is strength. A good place to start if you feel you need input on concordancers or how to create web based exercises.
