We can run a number of workshops to help ELT teachers gain knowledge in the area of technology-enhanced language learning.
Please contact us to discuss delivery of technology workshops for ELT teachers. See below for an example of a workshop run in January 2007 in Germany.
Workshop: K.I.S.S. and T.E.L.L.
Audience: ELT teachers
Time: 3 hours
Integrating new technology into language courses can be a daunting prospect. The range of technologies available continues to grow, and there are many unresolved and controversial issues in this area: what exactly is 'blended learning'? What happens when a student takes a course in terms of the technology they use? How is technology integrated into course? Which new technologies are used in the classroom or self access centre? Many ELT teachers feel that they lack knowledge and / or skills in this area, or simply the time to become familiar with the current range of new technologies. Nevertheless, this is one of the most exciting areas in language teaching, and successfully integrating technology can, the speaker will argue, lead to exciting learning outcomes.
This workshop will keep it short and simple. It will tell you what you need to know about technology-enhanced language learning. Firstly, I will present a pedagogical argument for incorporating technology in language teaching and learning. This section aims to establish a specific role for the teacher, and a specific role for the student, and will describe a 'Blended learning' model.
Part two, the main body of the session, will firstly look at some of the uses of the Internet in language teaching. It will then update participants on recent developments in the area of "new technology". This will include blogs, wikis, VLEs and electronic whiteboards. It will also offer some practical teaching ideas for teaching grammar and lexis, and learner training.
Finally, in the 'Over to you' part, participants have the opportunity to share their fears, exchange practical ideas and discuss any controversies in this area. This will be an 'open forum'. Participants will leave the workshop with a clear idea of what is involved in successfully integrating new technology into language learning.
